Not for me

Updated: 2 days ago

I am to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will.

I am to receive spiritual wisdom and understanding.

I am to walk in a way that is worthy of Him, as well as pleasing to Him.

I am to bear fruit, specifically in good works.

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work.

All that is for me. It says so right here in Col 1.9-10.

What follows, however, is not for me. It is only for the Colossians. They were new to the gospel, and so Paul prays they will increase in the knowledge of God.

I, on the other hand, am Marcos. I’ve been at this for 50 years. I am doing good, and I know a whole lot. So this part is definitely not directed to me, in fact I have completely eliminated it from the MSV, because I figure it’s not for you either.

The new MSV says it this way:

And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you,

asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will

in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord,

fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work

AND INCREASING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD,

particularly you, Marcos, particularly YOU.
