Speaking plainly

Jesus is still speaking plainly, and the challenges He sets before me continue to be mountainous…

Today He is confronting me [Mt 5.38-48] with beggars, borrowers, and the belligerent.

He wants me to be like Him as I deal with the whole batch of them.

That means no eye for eye, no tooth for tooth.

It means right cheek, left cheek.

As goes the tunic, so goes the cloak. Good-bye to both.

Two miles instead of one, beggars… tell them yes; borrowers… don’t make up excuses.

He goes so far as to say that I shouldn’t let hate get inside. Love Putin and love the guy lying puking on the sidewalk.

Marcos, what I am looking for in you is “Be ye perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

The challenge, of course, is not only to do it, but to do it with a good attitude, a pure heart, and without patting myself on the back.
