Papa was a gringo

Halfway home, Mr. Royal Official Papa gentile-connected-to-the-emperor-other-cheek-turner with the sick son runs into some of his household help.

“The boy is fine,” they excitedly tell him.

“Since what time?” he asks.

With this statement [John 4.52] the Holy Spirit reveals to us that Papa was a gringo, not a Mexican.

John, who is keeping count, tells us that this is the second “sign” that Jesus did. And, coincidentally, like the first, it happened in Cana.
