A hypothetical question

Today I have the joy of teaching Ps 73 and a couple of things are going through my head this morning.

Just as a refresher: Asaph was David’s worship leader.

He “almost slipped”.

He tells us all about it.

Are we so honest?

He puts all his garbage on the table.

I mean, the guy could lose his ministry by being so transparent.

I think he’s got something there we would do well to learn.

And then a hypothetical question.

Asaph says he almost gave up ship, thinking that this being a God-follower wasn’t all it was made up to be.

What would have happened if he had gone off the deep end?

Would the church have been there to love him, encourage him, build him up?

It was my mentor Von who first told me that Christians are the only soldiers who shoot their wounded.

I’ve never let go of that awful thought.
